Technology

The new digital telephony service proposed by EUROWEB Romania, is built on SIP and ENUM technologies, the same technologies chosen as the operating standards for UMTS services (third generation of mobile telephony), allowing multimedia communication between two users both through private communication means (VPN, rented lines) as well as through public ones, such as the world Internet network.

SIP ( Session Initiated Protocol )

This is the interactive communication protocol used over the Internet network and the successor of the current landline and mobile signaling protocols and is now going through a convergence process with the Internet network.

The SIP protocol is used for the creation, modifying and termination of the call sessions with 1 or more users. Session examples include Internet calls, multimedia distribution, multimedia conferences, PC games distributions and so on.

SIP is frequently used protocol which allows for the SIP terminals to decide what type of call should establish between users. The main purpose of SIP is to make communication possible and the communication itself can be negotiated by terminals using different means (including another protocol).

The SIP protocol is widely used today fro Voice over IP services, however it is not limited to voice applications. Video conferences, online gaming and other type of applications can be easily add without being forced to modify the signaling servers in the network.

For example 2 protocols used nowadays together with SIP for Voice over IP are RIP and SDP. The RIP protocol is used to transport real-time multimedia data (audio, video and text), it also makes possible the coding and splitting the data in packages and transport them over the Internet.

The SDP protocol is used to describe and code the communication session capabilities. The description is used to negotiate session characteristics, thus any device can be part of the call (eg: the codec negotiation used to code media data for all participants to be able to decode, negotiate the transport protocol and a lot others).

We also need to mention that the end-to-end SIP concept actually introduces a bid difference compared to the classic PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), used by the traditional landline services, where the logic part and the allocated status in the network is very primitive. The goal of the SIP protocol is to provide the same functionalities as the classic PSTN, but the end-to-end architecture actually determines the SIP based networks to be more robust and more stabile and also much more flexible to new functionalities compared to the old PSTN.

SIP was created based on the HTTP protocol, which actually made possible the World Wide Web network and adapting it to the Internet network. The SIP protocol is used to transport the session parameters description, and these descriptions are coded in one single document using the SDP protocol (Session Description Protocol).

poza tehnologii

Both protocols (HTTP and SIP) use the same type of coding and answering, a pattern which proved very effective and flexible over the years.

ENUM ( tElephone NUmber Mapping )

It is the protocol used for converting the existing phone numbers into VoIP addresses. This protocol is IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) certified. ENUM actually does the mapping of the international numbering plan E164 which is ITU certified ((International Telecommunication Union), into Internet addresses using the DNS protocol.

ENUM was adapted both for landline networks as well as 3rd generation mobile networks UMTS. The ENUM technology was developed in order to provide a solution so that the Internet services can be available via a phone number, and also to provide a solution for telephones, which are usually limited to entering data using the 12 digits, to be able to access this type of services. ENUM is the key element in the transition to Next Generation Networks. It introduces the revolutionary ability to take the decision for phone calls from the classic telephony structure and place it in the user's hand. The ENUM owners can receive calls to the same number both via classic PSTN network as well as via Internet where the transport costs are included in the network access costs.

These phone calls can be configures and routed by the user using the preferred IP devices (software or hardware phones).

Open Network

This is the definition for all SIP based networks. Due to the technology used all similar of networks form an international community network and all calls within this international network are free, regardless of the user location. The only Open Network in Romania is Eurovoice.

WebCare

Is an online application available for all Eurovoice users, which allows them to view the account settings like:
- Password
- Phone book
- Private number
- Redirect
- Accepting calls
- Voice mail
- Credit prepaid
- Block calls

CDR Tool

CDR Tool is an online module which you can use by entering your username and password and visualize in real time the calls stats and the costs you have to pay. Basically by using this service you actually get a detailed invoice.
